2012 Class/Board Social Event

Last night the Class of 2012 and the Leadership Morgan Hill Board of Directors held the Annual Board/Class social event at the Masonic Lodge in Morgan Hill. The event open only to class members of the current class and the board members of Leadership Morgan Hill is fast becoming a staple of the Leadership Morgan Hill experience. The event provides both groups an opportunity to get to know each other better in a more social setting. The popular pot luck dinner, hosted by the board, is yet another reason why Leadership Morgan Hill is the Best Class Ever!

President’s Message – December 2011

Dear Leadership Morgan Hill,
As 2011 comes to a close we have some exciting announcements for the year ahead

Class of 2012
With 2012 around the corner we are preparing for another year of delivering the Leadership Morgan Hill Experience.  Using the feedback that has been provided to our board over the past couple of years, and more recently by the Class of 2011, the curriculum is being revisited with some exciting changes that will make the program more dynamic and interactive.

Thanks to the recruiting efforts of our team the class of 2012 is developing nicely, however we still have openings for students to join in the experience. As a Leadership Morgan Hill Alumni you are in the best position to share the stories and experiences of being part of the program. Please help us grow the class by reaching out to friends, family and colleagues and encourage them to sign up today by visiting our website at www.leadershipmorganhill.org or by sending their name(s) to me via email to  victor@red7marketing.com.

2012 Leadership Excellence Award Honoree Rosy Bergin
Last month we announced that Rosy Bergin was selected our 2012 recipient of the Leadership Excellence Award.   The announcement and press release in the Morgan Hill Times was received with an overwhelming response of support and enthusiasm.   We anticipate that the event, scheduled for August 11th, 2012 at the Chiala family’s beautiful and historic Fountain Oaks estate will be the party of the year. The Honorary and Event Committee’s are already working to develop the details of the evening and we are lucky to have such a dedicated group of community leaders working to honor one of our own.  Stay tuned for additional details as they become available, I have a feeling this will be a sell out!

New Board Member Directors
We are excited to announce and welcome three new directors to the board, they are:

Kathy Kearney (Class of 2010)
Murv Little (Class of 2011)
Kathie Kingston-Toombs (Class of 2011)

The addition of Kathy, Murv and Kathie brings us to a full board of 15 directors and builds on the wealth of experience and knowledge on our team. We are happy to have them and look forward to their contributions.

On behalf of the entire board of directors I wish you all a very happy holiday season and all the best for a prosperous and healthy 2012.

Sincerely,
Victor Gaxiola

President’s Message- October 2011

Welcome to another year of the Leadership Morgan Hill Experience. My name is Victor Gaxiola (LMH Class of 2009*) and am writing to introduce myself to you as the President of the Board of Leadership Morgan Hill for the 2011-2012 program year.

On behalf of our entire board of directors we’d like congratulate our recent Class of 2011 graduates for a great year and their outstanding project- Bricks for Our Future. The class project consisted of building an engraved brick bench and planter memorial on the grounds of the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, with proceeds from the fundraiser earmarked to help local youth programs. The class raised money for their project through the sale of individual brinks, engraved with the names and logos of local residents, businesses and organizations that sponsored the project. Overall the class raised enough money to cover the cost of the bench and planters and to make a generous donation of $25,000 to support local youth organizations. The much needed funds will be used to expand youth program services in our community to benefit underserved children. Organizations benefiting from the donation include the El Toro Youth Center, the Community Sports Mentor Program, Boy Scouts troops 709 and 799, Girls Scouts troop 640, Future Business Leaders of America of Live Oak High School, the Morgan Hill Police Young Explorers program, and the Future Farmers of America programs of Live Oak and Sobrato high schools. At a special ribbon cutting event over the Taste of Morgan Hill weekend, the class of 2011 was on hand to celebrate and give out the donations to the organizations that they honored. Thank you to the Class of 2011 for making a contribution to the youth programs of our community and by adding a beautiful addition to the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center.

The 2012 program year promises to build on the momentum created by our class and our successful Leadership Excellence Award Dinner held in August of this year honoring local philanthropist Mike Johnson of Johnson Lumber. Our Board is energized to deliver a successful program for the upcoming year. In the months to come we will be fully focused on the recruitment and selection of our 2012 class.

Applications are already available on-line at http://www.leadershipmorganhill.org and this year we will be holding another Leadership Morgan Hill Information Night on Wednesday, October 12th from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. The information night is designed to provide prospective students insight on the program and what they can expect from the Leadership Morgan Hill experience. Board members and Alumni will be present to answer questions and review the features and benefits of the experience. If you know anyone that is interested in being part of the program in 2012 or in the future, please have them join us at this event. Participants can register/RSVP at: http://lmhinfonight2011-estw.eventbrite.com

This year’s we are also happy to welcome new directors to our board and we look forward to their contributions:

Nick Firato (Class of 2011)
Katie Hardt-Mason (Class of 2011)
Natalie Kuskie (Class of 2011)
Jeff Nunes (Class of 2010)

As we welcome these new board members, we also recognize with honor and gratitude the contributions made by our exiting board members. Thank you so much for your service:

Dolores Alvardo (Class of 2010)
Sharron Daniel (Class of 2009)
Dana Ditmore
Lou Mirviss
Jon Mockabee (Class of 2008)
Diane Silveira (Class of 2007)
Priya Smith (Class of 2008)

The talent and experience that is leaving the board will create NEW opportunities for Alumni and community leaders to get involved with Leadership Morgan Hill. The best way we to ensure a successful Leadership program is to have the brightest and the best in our community to take part in the experience. We encourage you be part of the process by volunteering to be on one of our operating committees, or to participate in the class planning process. If you are interested in being a part of it in 2012, please contact me directly or any member of our board.

Here’s to another great year!

Leadership Morgan Hill Information Night

In order to provide prospective students an opportunity to learn about the Leadership Morgan Hill experience, we are having a special Leadership Morgan Hill Information Night on October 12th at the Community & Cultural Center from 7:00pm-8:30pm. At the event we will go over what prospective students can expect to experience during the nine month program that begins in January 2012. We will review the program curriculum and have alumni on hand to provide testimonials of the experience and to answer questions. The information night was a big hit last year and helped increase the class size of our dynamic class of 2011.

If you or someone you know has expressed interest in being a part of a Leadership Morgan Hill class, we strongly encourage you and/or your guest to attend this event. Board members and presenting Alumni will be present to answer your questions and have time for networking before and after the presentations.

LEAD Letter to Leadership Alumni

Dear Leadership Morgan Hill Alumni:
On Saturday, August 6th, Leadership Morgan Hill will honor Mike Johnson, owner of Johnson Lumber Ace Hardware, at our Leadership Excellence Award Dinner (“LEAD”) party. The party will take place at Jason Stephens Winery and include a summer feast with gourmet food catered by Chef’s Table, and music from local band the Usual Suspects.

This year’s LEAD event provides an opportunity to reach out to the community; to raise funds for the Leadership program through sponsorships; to honor Mike Johnson an exemplary community leader and acknowledge and celebrate all alumni who contribute to Leadership Morgan Hill through their personal donations and time to the program.

As you may know, contributions from alumni, sponsors, and other community members allow us to maintain the high quality of the program and keep our individual annual tuition at an affordable level. For the past three years we have maintained our tuition at $1,200, which represents only half of the actual per person fixed cost to operate our annual program. We can use your help.

Donations of any amount are welcome. By donating $100 or more to Leadership, your name will appear in a special Alumni section in this year’s LEAD event program. Donations can be made via PayPal on our website (www.leadershipmorganhill.org) or by sending a check to P.O. Box 1316, Morgan Hill, CA 95038. As a 501(c)(3), your contribution to Leadership Morgan Hill is tax deductible. Please consider gift matching if your company offers a matching program.

Along with cash donations, you may consider a donation for the silent auction or a donation of time as a volunteer for the event. If you have an in-kind contribution, please contact Sharron Daniels at (408) 891-7795 or sdaniel@ebay.com. If you are interested in LEAD volunteer opportunities, please contact Linda Withrow at (408) 612-8661 or lwithrow78@gmail.com.

In summary, there are many ways to support Leadership Morgan Hill: attend LEAD, be a sponsor, donate an item to the auction, contribute dollars or time. Any or all efforts are greatly appreciated!

We look forward to seeing you at the August 6th LEAD party and hope your name will be proudly listed as one of the many Alumni Donors.

With Respect and Gratitude,

Ken Meagor
President, Board of Directors

Linda Withrow
